Prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Hardik Pandya was selected captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday. Hardik took over for the immensely successful Rohit Sharma, who won five trophies with the IPL giants. The Mumbai Indians congratulated Rohit for his outstanding contribution to the team and stated in a statement earlier on Friday that the leadership change was a part of their future plans.

With five titles apiece, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are the most successful IPL teams.

Since 2013, when India won their first of five IPL championships, Rohit has been the team captain. Most recently, he guided India to the ODI World Cup final.
